Are glazed partitions a sustainable option?

Sustainability is at the top of the agenda for many specifiers and their clients, and rightly so.

At SioSystems, we share this passion for creating sustainable projects. Therefore devote a lot of our time to locating and employing the most sustainable materials and manufacturing procedures, to minimise our environmental impact.

So are glazed partitions good for the planet? And if so, why?

Compared with drywall, which comes with a relatively high carbon footprint, glazed partitions are certainly a sustainable option.

1.    Glass is 100% recyclable without any drop in quality. This means there is no waste in the manufacturing process as, if there are any quality issues or breakages, the glass is simply recycled at source.

2.    Likewise, aluminium is also 100% recyclable. All our off-cuts are recycled and the raw material we use for our extrusions has a high recycled content.

3.    Glass partitions can be demounted and reconfigured as occupier requirements change over time, saving on waste that generally ends up as landfill.

4.    Glass partitions enable free flow of natural light throughout the floor plate, helping to reduce reliance on artificial lighting and thus reducing energy consumption.

5.    Our systems are manufactured just outside of London, our main area of operation, keeping transport to a minimum.
